Hi Laserers
As we are approaching the end of a successful Rhu winter series, I was hoping that we could find a suitable venue to continue our inter club racing but keeping the travelling distances from both clubs reasonable. I suggest we could try Lochwinnoch which is about 10 minutes south of Erskine Bridge (tolls about to be abolished!) so about equal distance from Ayr and Helensburgh. I don't know what it is like to sail there, but if there is enough interest I am willing to try it out. We can also supply a rescue boat.
Does anyone know of other possible venues in that sort of area (10 mile radius)?
ABRL will also continue to race at Irvine at weekends and visitors are always most welcome. We now have 7 boats (If Mark can get through the snow to deliver the 3 new ones !) and there are others interested in joining us.
Fair winds,
Frae the renegade maurauding Ayrshire doon the watter sort of person. |

I agree with Loch Winnoch, there have been model boat regattas held on the loch not so long ago.
How about Largs from the dinghy club slipway, rescue boat an absolute necessity though. could have a long distance race Cumbrae and back.
There is of course the recognised model sailing ponds at
1. Greenock MY&PBC
Greenock along with Paisley shares the distinction of
being amongst the oldest model yachts in the UK.
Currently the club sails International One Metres,
Radio 6 Metres and Seawinds at Murdieston Dam on
the southern side of the town.
2. The Paisley club was 100 years old in 1996. Today
the club sails International One Metres, and Radio 6
Metres at Barshaw Park which is just off the Glasgow
Road.
Also East Kilbride |

Do any members of the forum have previous experience of model boat sailing at Loch Winnoch, if so please post a reply.

How can I say anything against the Big Yin after all the nice things he said about me? EASY!!!! But I will desist. Thanks to Mark and all the good guys frae Rhu for making us Southerners so welcome, and for all the banter.
Still think that Mark had been up all night on Saturday praying to the wind god of the Clyde, he managed to arrange the holes for me to sail into, but forgot to ask him for guid wind for himsel! Best just tae get sum sleep pal.
Hope to see you guys at Lochwinnoch sometime soon.
Fair winds,
MSDTFASSP
PS Got any o that bleach stuff in stock Mark? |

MYA have used the site for event in 2004 see photos
http://www.mya-uk.org.uk/Scotland...20_Ranking_Race_2004_Photos_1.htm
He was very positive about hosting Scottich Open in October and not adverse to having a series through the Summer, weed seems to be no problem.
Need Public liability insurance (via MYA affiliation). He even said they might lay on a rescue boat for the RCL Scottish open.
Good news is the cafe is open all year round. maybe we could persuade Largs Dinghy Club to be available for the Saturday evening for the open.
Only problem is a rescue boat, he was bit against another RIB, claiming the lake has SSSI status and named boats only are allowed on the lake, they do power boat level 2 there , so I do not see what the problem is, needs a bit of working on, maybe Richard Rowan may be able to help us.
Give your views, RSVP
Regards

Sounds like an ideal venue for scottish ,
If social get together at Largs , plenty of accom in toon for visitors, I have contacts in Largs and I don't think it would take too much persuasion to get them to let us avail of their services and spend lots o money !
They do excellent grub , and the beers no bad for ayrshire ! |
